This extension was designed for a bright and sunny south facing garden to a Victorian terrace in Hackney, London and provides a new open-plan kitchen/dining, and living space that opens up to the rear garden.

The new design replaces a dark and dingy rear lean-to which cut off the house from the rest of the garden and the light. The extension creates a new full width dining/living  area with sliding glazed doors that create a seamless link between the house and the garden allowing the house to function well as a family home.

A sculptural cantilevered roof canopy provides solar shading whilst also demarcating a semi-enclosed external terrace space which can be used as an outdoor living room / dining room with built in bench seating
