Having just received planning permission, this design for the addition of a 2 storey roof top extension to an existing residential tower block on a dense urban site in East Central London will provide a new duplex apartment, re-modelling of the flats below and new CorTen cladding / render to dramatically improve the external appearance. 

Achieving planning permission for this challenging site required a painstaking analysis of the surrounding buildings and a detailed design development with regard to day-lighting, views and visual impact on the street scene. The building massing and materiality was carefully developed to address all of these factors whilst providing high quality residential accommodation. The unique height and position of the existing building within its setting provided an opportunity to develop a striking sculptural addition to the urban environment. Careful articulation and specification of the new cladding materials and fenestration re-invigorate the existing building providing an elegant new character.
