Fitoplancton Research Centre

Completed whilst this successful Marine research company was in its relative infancy this proud building provides a vision of the ambitions of the Innovative Spanish Company.

Having the capacity to expand and accommodate a growing number of staff was one of the key client  requirements. Height was used in the design to give the building presence but also to allow for adaptability via the addition of mezzanine levels to provide additional floor space in the existing shell as required.

The large canted windows are angled so as to admit good ambient day-lighting to the office and laboratory spaces but avoiding direct solar penetration. This feature provides the interior with a light airy feel not normally associated with these types of buildings whilst providing a comfortably cool internal climate through natural methods.

The fresh and bright palette of materials responds to the hot climate, protecting the interior. A simple cladding system used in a creative manner allowed the project to be procured within the client’s budget whilst also providing an inspirational space to work.
